Core ECI
Information Vector
𝐈An organized relational structure with possible asymmetry, recurrence, closure, or coupling potential. Persistence is a possible property, not a prerequisite.
Information Substrate
𝓘Hypothesized foundational layer of relational configurations from which distinguishable states emerge.
Carrier
CAn operationally coherent entity, relative to the scale of analysis, that bears, processes, and maintains information.
Energy
EEnergetic resources and flows required for physical state transitions and maintenance.
Channel
ChA proposed domain characterized by dimensional, causal and interaction constraints within which Carrier realizations occur.
Medium
Mechanism of information exchange within or between Carriers. Split into Encoding/Storage Medium and Transmission Medium.
ECI Unit
Ω_ECIThe coupled configuration (𝐈, C, E ; Ch). Whether this decomposition is necessary is itself a hypothesis.
Relations
Containment
C ∈ ChCarrier exists within Channel. The fundamental relation between a Carrier and its host Channel.
Compatibility
QQ(𝐈, C, Ch). Pattern-substrate fit: the degree to which an information pattern is realizable on a given Carrier within a given Channel.
Coupling
ΓDynamical interaction through which one system can influence another. Causal coupling is a stronger subclass.
Informational Resonance
Enhanced coupling caused by configuration compatibility. Not literal frequency resonance.
Dynamics
Variation
VFamily of measures (variance, entropy, state-space occupancy, etc.), not a single scalar.
Coordination
κDegree to which states participate in structured, dynamically consequential relationships.
Persistence Filtering
Conditional reweighting of configuration distributions by survival probability. The reweighting equation is a bookkeeping identity; the ECI hypothesis is the decomposition of P_pers.
Persistence Probability
P_persProbability a configuration survives over interval Δt. The genuine ECI hypothesis concerns what determines this.
Core Cycle
V → Explore → Coupling Opportunities → Filter → Persist → New V (circular). Not periodic oscillation.
Scale & Emergence
Scale Recursion
The same formal grammar applied across levels: coarse-grained macro-variable at level L serves as effective unit at level L+1.
Emergence
High-level properties arising from coordinated microstates that are not derivable from individual microstate properties alone.
Observer
Observer Compression
Modeling observer transformations as lossy compression. Bridge level for filtering; proposed abstraction for ontological claims.
Observer Types
O1: physical detector; O2: biological/cognitive; O3: conscious. Quantum measurement requires only O1.
Evidence System
Evidence Status
Axis 1: established, bridge, proposed, speculative, mixed, methodological.
Testability
Axis 2: direct, indirect, conditional, not-yet-operationalized, n/a.
